American Airlines is significantly expanding its network and enhancing its loyalty program, offering travelers more destinations and improved ways to earn and redeem miles. The airline is introducing new routes to popular vacation spots and integrating more flexibility into its AAdvantage program, signaling a strategic push to capture more leisure and business travel.

New Routes for 2026 Travel

American Airlines is set to launch a series of new routes in 2026, focusing on popular domestic vacation destinations. Starting in mid-February, the airline will reintroduce or expand three routes from LaGuardia Airport (LGA) to the Southeast: LGA to Jacksonville, Florida (JAX); LGA to Savannah/Hilton Head, Georgia (SAV); and LGA to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (MYR). These flights will operate on Fridays and Saturdays, returning on Sundays, and will continue through September 8.

For summer 2026, American is bringing back nonstop service from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Jackson Hole, Wyoming (JAC), running daily from June 18 to October 4. Additionally, the airline will extend its nonstop flights between Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport (GUC) in Colorado from June 18 to September 8. In total, American is adding 30 new routes for the summer of 2026.

Expanded Florida Connectivity

Further bolstering its presence in Florida, American Airlines is launching new nonstop flights to Vero Beach Regional Airport (VRB) from its Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) hub, beginning February 12, 2026. This daily, year-round service will provide Vero Beach residents with access to American’s extensive global network via Charlotte. This move comes as Vero Beach sees a surge in commercial air service from various carriers.

Enhancements to the AAdvantage Program

American Airlines is also making significant improvements to its AAdvantage loyalty program. Members can now redeem AAdvantage miles for flights on JetSmart, a South American low-cost carrier. This new redemption option, available on American’s website, allows members to book flights within South America, closing a key gap in the partnership between the two airlines. While these redemptions are for JetSmart-only itineraries, they include a free checked bag, seat selection, and flexibility for changes or cancellations.

Additionally, eligible Citi ThankYou Rewards cardholders can now transfer points to AAdvantage at a 1:1 ratio. Travelers can also book American flights through new shared loyalty programs with Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines, offering more ways to utilize points and miles.
